How it works

Useful numbers, and nothing personal

One line on your site. No cookies, no banner, no identities.

One

One line on your site

Add your site’s address and Analytics gives you a single line to paste into your pages. It loads after the rest of the page, so it does not hold the page up, and it follows page changes on sites built with React, Vue or SvelteKit without any extra wiring.

Two

What it notes, and what it leaves out

For each page view: the page (without anything after a ? in the address), where the visitor came from, how long the page was open and how far down it was read, and broad details such as phone or computer, browser, screen size, language and country. Not their IP address, not anything stored in their browser, and nothing that follows them from one day or one site to the next.

Three

Counting visits without knowing visitors

To count one person reading five pages as one visit, Analytics mixes the visitor’s connection and browser with a secret code that is replaced every day, the old one deleted. Within a day that tells pages from the same visit apart; once the code is gone, nobody can work backwards to a person, us included. So the figures are anonymous, not just hidden.

Four

What you see

Visitors, page views and visits, day by day. The pages people read most and where they came from, campaigns you have tagged, phones against computers, browsers, countries and languages, the hours your site is busiest, how many leave after one page, and how far down they read. Over the last week, month or three months.

Devices, browsers, operating systems and languages; the busiest hours of the day; screen sizes; bounce rate and scroll depth; and visits from two tagged campaigns.

Five

Count the things that matter to you

A visit is only half the story. Add one line where something happens on your site, such as a booking button, a sign-up or a download, and Analytics counts it next to the visits. Name the action, never the person.

Your visitors, your responsibility, made easy

You decide to measure your site, so you tell your visitors: a line in your own privacy notice pointing to ours is usually enough. Because nothing is stored in their browser, there is no cookie banner to add.
